We live in a city were "trying to park could mean driving around for 40 mins sometimes". My question is: why are hydrants so close to the curb? Why not set them back and illuminate the problem of cars including city Dept cars from parking too close. Why not illiminate the red-lines on the corners and have them where they are absolutely necessary for 1 st responders to make the turns. Manhattan doesn't have red-lines and FD Co. have no problem making the turns. On a desperate note regarding 1 st responders making a turn onto a block where they need to access because the incident at hand "is on that block" - I live on a quiet one way block and I have withness "multiple times" 1 St responders taking my quiet Streets where homeowner cars are taking grocery goods home, mail trucks, contractors are double parked, children are at play and where 1 st responders continue to blast down these small blocks, at times sitting on there sirens and horns because they can't immediately get thru... They should instead take one of the 4 lane wide open streets. Someday when someone dies because of a delay response some family member is going to raise the question "how did that emergency vehicle travel to get to the incident"! I have seen little children running after a ball in the street where the parent gets distracted talking to a neighbor. We need more parking spots and more speed bumps on the quiet streets and we need more traffic agents keeping an eye on cars with NY plates and cars without window permits parking in our areas all day long.

Speed bumps should be standard in the downtown area given the rising number of residents.
